The government has announced that the ceiling price of COVID-19 rapid test kits in Malaysia has been set to RM 19.90 and will be put in place starting from 5 September 2021 onwards. At the moment, these test kits are generally priced at above RM 30. The maximum wholesale price for the test kits has also been set to RM 16.00 per set.

According to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines, RTK-Ag testing is considered as a screening test and RT-PCR shall be used as a confirmatory test to define a COVID-19 case. However, RTK-Ag can be used as a confirmatory test in certain circumstances where there are confirmed COVID-19 clusters or outbreaks in areas that are identified by the National Crisis Preparedness.
Sharing his thoughts via a Facebook post, the minister said that he appreciates the cooperation provided by businesses in KPDNHEP’s continuous effort to lower the price of Covid-19 self-test kits. Earlier this year, the self-test kits were sold at about RM39.90 per unit, but the ministry subsequently fixed the ceiling price at RM19.90 per.
